As much as music can serve to sustain you during the monotony of a morning commute, sometimes your ears could use a change of pace (so to speak).

Podcasts have increasingly become a worthwhile distraction to take the edge off the sardine can experience of public transportation, or the slowly-inching-toward-my-destination slowness of freeway traffic.

And while interview-style podcasts such as Marc Maron's "WTF" and true crime podcast trailblazer "Serial" dominated alot of the early conversations around podcasting, there's plenty more to be discovered as the genre has exploded with much, much more to listen to.

There are now an estimated 700,000 podcasts available on podcast networks. While some have argued that perhaps there are too many podcasts to listen to, there's also such a wealth of wonderful podcasts that make this a great time to start up the podcast habit. (Or fall deeper into the podcast rabbit hole.)
